Dear
Listeners -- you are listening to a historic recording - Today is the 16th
of April 2003
This
digital message is the concluding statement of the first new media art
Festival held in Thailand 28 March to 15th April.
The
Festival was opened at, and on the occasion of, the establishment of CEMS
- the 'Collaborative Electronic Media Space' at Chiangmai University, Faculty
of Architecture.
The
Festival was opened by Mr. Tanun Anumanrajadhon, the Vice President for
International Relations and Foreign Affairs of Chiang Mai University, and
Mr. Peerapong Duangrat - speaker for international affairs at CMU Faculty
of Architecture, and a speech by Mr. Uthit Atimana, Asscociate Dean for
the CMU Art Museum and Mr. Francis Wittenberger of ICECA Thailand -Director
of Thailand's first Media Art Festival. The speeches were made to localy
while being broadcast live over the internet with audio
streaming and received live greetings from Czech republic, Germany,
Italy and Texas.
This
international event was an opening point for 13 days of daily media art
lectures, workshops and video art presentations at CMU Art Museum's Theater,
with 12 guest artists from Germany, Australia, Austria, Sweden, Holland
and Israel, supported by various art institutions.
A simultaneous
exhibition was opened at the CMU Art Museum on the ocassion of the Thai
New year - "Songkran Festival" with the aim of bringing new media art closer
to Thai audiences. This exbibition was opened on the 4th of April 2003
with a speech by Mr. Pisit Ketphasook, the Governor of Chiang Mai, and
Prof. Vitti Panitpan - the Asscociate Dean for Foreign Relations of the
CMU Faculty of Fine Arts.
This
exhibition had the notable success of having a large number of daily visitors
among which were several hundred young boys and girls - the future of new
media art in Thailand.
The
organizers of this Festival look forward to maintaining their commitment
for further non-profit new media art activities, lectures and presentations
with visiting artists from around the globe throughout the following year.
We also hope to hold an annual New Media Art Festival.
We
would like to thank the many visitors, visiting artists, our kind
sponsors and you - for sharing this moment in time with us.
