ICECA Thailand The Initiative for Cultural Exchange and Computer Arts, Thailand.
Aims of ICECA Thailand
ICECA Thailand is a platform supporting
all forms of electronic art and emphasizing creativity, inventiveness, the
importance of individual contribution, and new forms of skills training to
advance the profession of the artist in Thailand.
ICECA Thailand was founded in 2001
Chiangmai. This not-for-profit initiative holds the central purpose of promoting
the value of electronic arts within the art communities of Thailand and for
society at large. Currently the ICECA administers the Thailand New Media Arts
Festival and its forthcoming Asia New Media Arts Festival and the development of
“Art Central” - Thailand's first International Center for Arts and Media in
Bangkok.
The value of electronic arts is manifold
in terms of cultural, social, economic and educational significance. The benefit
for Thailand is clear: access to the resources of electronic arts, education
platforms and global networks of exchange will heighten Thailand's contribution
to, and profile within, the international arena. In this respect, the ICECA
seeks to forge links between Thailand's art and intellectual communities, the
general public and the business sector with a spirit of cooperation. Electronic
arts, unlike other art forms, facilitate relationships between a diverse range
of practices and interests. Moreover, electronic arts are intrinsic to
understandings of contemporaneity.
ICECA Thailand is now working toward its
official registration as a foundation and hopes that the public and Thailand's
business sector will give full support in the matter of finance. This will
enable the ICECA to fulfill its aims in terms of extending activities into the
provinces and expanding internationally.

What is New Media?
Initiated by inventions
outside the world of art – technology diverting art into many different areas –
technology as the ‘here and now’ of art – art linked with design, craft,
computer – art as subject to change – artists can work against the commodity
value of technology – artists can explore the critical potential of technology
and new media – the history of new media is difficult to write because it is
always changing/developing – simultaneous activities among different kinds of
artists and in different parts of the world – new media is better understood
thematically rather than chronologically (e.g. time, avant-garde cinema, art
history, cross-fertilization of theater, dance, film and video, video
art/installation, digital and electronic exhibits and public
installations) |
