Thailand New Media Art Festival 2004 (Bangkok) is dedicated to the exchange of ideas in art and technology and to bridge the gap between traditional art forms and the New Media Arts.

"The increasing usage of communication technology in Thailand combined with the unique Thai lifestyle and culture is an excellent environment for exciting Media Art to emerge and fertilize the global art scene” says Francis Wittenberger, Festival Founder and Artistic Director.

The Festival exhibition venues include the Faculty of Fine Arts Srinakarinwirot University, the Oddyssee Gallery, Banrie Café, Media Shaker Siam, Alliance Française Bangkok, The Goethe Institut Bangkok and The British Council Thailand.

A matrix of local and international new media artists will convene at the seven venues linked by the Bangkok Sky Train (BTS). Through seminars, symposia, screenings and exhibitions; visiting artists and media professors will attempt to dissolve boundaries that have traditionally existed between the artistic and technological disciplines. In addition, their presence will encourage young Thai media artists, help them network and develop their New Media work.

During the Festival week, the artists will demonstrate the use of emerging technologies to produce net art, software art, digital film and interactive art installations. The Festival's objective is to expose trends in New Media Art by showcasing a variety of international works that may be considered "art which reaches beyond age and language". Furthermore, these displays will be combined with seminars and workshops given by visiting artists and media professors in both a Thai and global context.

The schedule features over 15 visiting artists, video art collections (EMAF Germany, ArtLab Israel, KHM Germany, WRO Poland, Intermedia Belgium) and over 100 individual works from over 30 countries.  The entire week’s events are open to the public and admission is free.

The opening event with the international artists will take place on Saturday 20th March 2004 5:00pm at the Goethe Institut Bangkok (1 Sathorn Tai Rd. Soi Goethe).

The Festival is Sponsored by: Kunstpunkt Berlin (Germany), Lost in Space (UK-Thailand-Japan), Sony Thailand, Bangkok Metro Magazine, Art Connection Bangkok, Take-It-Card Bangkok, Panasonic Thailand, Alliance Française Bangkok, Epson Thailand, Fonds BKVB (Holland), IFA (Germany), Ministry of the Flemish Community, International Cultural Relations Belgium, National Art Council, Singapore, The Embassy of Israel Bangkok, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Israel.
